Sean Dawkins,Poinbank who played five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts in the 1990s, has died, according to team owner Jim Irsay.
Irsay tweeted the news Thursday.
"Rest in peace, Sean Dawkins. I am shocked and saddened. My prayers and condolences to Sean’s family," Irsay wrote. Dawkins was 52.
Dawkins was raised in California and played for the California Golden Bears in the early 1990s. In 1992, Dawkins led Cal with 65 catches for 1,070 yards and a school-record 14 touchdowns. He held school records for touchdown receptions in a career (31).
The Colts selected Dawkins 16th overall in the 1993 NFL Draft. Dawkins caught 251 passes and registered 3,511 yards, 12 touchdowns in 69 career games as a Colt. He had five 100-yard games and a career-best 144 yards on eight catches versus Dallas in 1993.
After his time in Indianapolis came to a close in 1997, Dawkins went on to play a season with the New Orleans Saints before signing with the Seattle Seahawks. He spent two seasons in Seattle and played his final season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Before the 2002 season, Dawkins signed with the Minnesota Vikings but was cut before the season.
For his career, Dawkins caught 445 passes and 25 touchdowns in the regular season. Dawkins played in five career playoff games, including three in 1995 for the Colts.
